THUNDERBIRDS COMPLETE TRADE AHEAD OF 2ND ROAD SERIES IN A ROW
After dropping two games in Watertown, NY over the weekend series, the Thunderbirds are gearing up for a weekend in Danville, Ill. Tuesday morning Carolina completed a trade with the Port Huron Prowlers, sending two players for two in return. Thunderbirds forward Dalton Jay has been traded for Port Huron forward Matt Beer. In addition, the rights to goaltender Nikita Ivandikov have been traded for goaltender Curtis Martinu.
Matt Beer, from Corunna, Ontario, Canada, stands 6-foot-tall and weighs 205 pounds. This season with Port Huron, in 4 games he has 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes. Last season with the Prowlers, he played in 45 games, had 20 goals, 11 assists, 41 penalty minutes, and was a -20.
Curtis Martinu, hails from St. Joachim, Ontario, Canada, is 6-foot-four and 216 pounds. Last season he played in 27 games for Port Huron where he posted a 3.56 goals against average, and a .913 save percentage. He would also play in one game apiece for the Macon Mayhem and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

The Thunderbirds Coaches Show will continue on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 6-7 pm on the flagship station for the Thunderbirds Radio Network, WTOB, “The Big 980”. Tune in to hear from President and GM Scott Brand, Head Coach Andre Niec, and forward and alternate captain Josh Pietrantonio.
Wednesday November 15, the Thunderbirds will be at the Mount Airy Public Library, in Mount Airy, NC, for “Fly Into Reading” a program which encourages children to be more active and engaged readers. The program will go from 4-5 pm with players reading to children and speaking with them as well.
Thursday, November 16, “Fly Into Reading” comes to the King Public Library in King, NC, from 4:30-5:30 pm players will be reading to and speaking with children.
All “Fly Into Reading” events are completely free and open to the public.
Friday, November 17, it’s “Hockey 101” at Old Nick’s Pub in Lewisville, NC. Come out and get free pizza from 6-7 pm, and from 7-9 pm Coach Niec and some of the players will be breaking down the finer points of the great sport of hockey. Stay after and mingle with the players.
The Thunderbirds travel to Danville, Ill, to take on the Dashers on November 18 and 19. Both games can be heard on the Thunderbirds Radio Network. On Saturday the 18th the broadcast will begin at 7:45 pm EST. Sunday the 19th will start at 5:45 pm EST.
