New Winston Museum is pleased to announce upcoming programs in concert with our latest exhibit, “Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Winston-Salem’s Wheels of Change” and our monthly Salon Series events. All events are free and open to the public.

January programs will include:

January Salon Series:
Institution to Revolution: The Dark Days

January 28th, 5:30-7pm at New Winston Museum, 713 S. Marshall Street

Our 1st quarter 2016 Salon Series theme is “Out of the Shadows–Illuminating Disabilities.” Bryan Dooley, Winston-Salem resident and national disability advocate, will begin the series with a personal discussion of his family’s journey as early beneficiaries of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

About the “Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Winston-Salem’s Wheels of Change” exhibit: From thundering locomotives to soaring flying machines, the idea of open, free movement has long captured our collective imagination. The advance of transportation from the wagon to the automobile follows closely the story of our city’s founding and growth. Over the last three centuries, different modes of transportation have pushed and pulled our population and economy, taking us through periods of urbanization and suburbanization, always changing how we interact with our space and each other. Winston-Salem is a living city, constantly rolling through history on wheels of change. “Planes, Trains & Automobiles: Winston-Salem’s Wheels of Change” provides a glimpse into the varied ways in which the history of how we move has affected how we live today.

The exhibition will run from September 19, 2015 through May 28, 2016 and includes interactive elements and activities for children and school groups of all ages. Exhibit sponsors are the Piedmont Aviation Historical Society and the North Carolina Humanities Council. Exhibit programming sponsor is North State Aviation.
