Thunderbirds Land on 980 AM

WTOB-AM Announced As Official Broadcast Partner

The Carolina Thunderbirds and WTOB radio announced today that the Thunderbirds have landed on the BIG 980 AM WTOB radio dial. WTOB plays Winston-Salem’s biggest hits and broadcast in the spirit of WTOB 1380, the area’s top station in the 60’s and 70’s.

The agreement includes broadcasting all 56 home and away games plus a weekly coach’s show during the season. As the broadcast partner of the Thunderbirds, WTOB will be involved in our biggest promotional events including Opening Night as well as Fan Appreciation Night.

President and General Manager Scott Brand advised that “A classic iconic hockey team on a classic iconic radio station is a perfect fit. Besides reaching our base over the airwaves, fans outside the listening area will be able to stream the games via the WTOB’s website”. Station Manager Mark Richards said, “We’re excited to be the broadcast partner of The Carolina Thunderbirds. Local hockey fans can follow the action both home and away on the air and online”.

WTOB is a station on the move as they prepare to move downtown to their new offices and studios located in the Winston-Salem’s Art District. The Thunderbirds are a new expansion team who will began play in the 2017-18 in the professional hockey league called the Federal Hockey League. The Thunderbirds will be bringing a full time broadcaster on board in the spring who will serve as the public relations director, voice of the team and will host the live weekly coaches show. The Thunderbirds plan on broadcasting the coaches show three (3) weeks in studio and one week (1) at a local establishment for a total of six (6) “on the road” shows.

Brand added, “We are not done increasing our broadcast presence in the Triad region and we hope to be able to announce more news shortly regarding Thunderbirds broadcasting outlets
